Not Quite Pro Cup II written by Sabre0001, 2008-09-28 22:38 CEST (9 comments)
We are taking a small break to work out the best way to progress and make the cup as good as possible
Introducing the second 'Not Quite Pro' Cup. A fun duel cup for inexperienced or lower skilled Quake 3 players. The main objective of this is for people to play against players around their own skill level while improving and having fun!
This cup is run in association with the Quake Quick Cup [qqc.tourney.cc] (now in its sixth edition). This means that there is room for advancement and that players will be competing in the cup that is suitable for their skill level (and moved if they “accidentally” sign up for the wrong one :) )
If you have ANY questions, comments, queries, etc., please contact Sabre0001 or Rzelky
GTV will be available to spectators on the day. Please download the lobby map [speedyshare.com] in order to minimise waiting time (it's for your own good!). This file should be put in C:\quake3\gtv3 directory and when you load Quake, press ` and enter cl_allowdownload 0
To connect to GTV, in the console type /connect games2.mysmart.ie:27963 and follow the instructions.
Scheduled
This cup will be run on Sunday xxxxx October. Please be in IRC from 17:30 and matches will go LIVE at 18:00.
Game:
Quake 3 v1.32 & CPMA mod (v1.46)
Vq3 gameplay
Server:
games3.mysmart.ie
Tournament Structure
Match type: 1v1 Duel
Tournament will be run as a GROUP STAGE followed by a SINGLE ELIMINATION BRACKET.
Within the group stage the matches are 10 minute maps and draws ARE allowed.
In the elimination bracket matches are 15 minute maps and best of 3.
Overtime: 2 minutes
Maps:
ztn3tourney1
pro-q3dm6
pro-q3tourney4
pro-nodm9
hub3aeroq3
Match is played as a “best of three maps”. Both players select a map from the map list before the match starts. If a third map is required, each player eliminates one map from the list. The player with the lower frag difference from the previous two maps eliminates the first map and the higher player gets the deciding vote.
Results and maps should be submitted to Sabre0001 or Rzelky shortly after match completion. Screenshots and demos are not necessary but may be of use in the case of a dispute.
Note: This is a QUICK cup. Therefore it will be run within one day. As a result, we must be mean with time. If you are called to play, you must be in IRC. From first notification you have 15mins to play the game (unless you can provide a valid reason and there are other games that can be played within this time). Otherwise you will have to forfeit your match.
If you do not have IRC, a quick access is available for Firefox [webchat.quakenet.org]. Just enter your nickname and #esports.ie as the channel.
Internet Explorer [web-irc.org] users can also partake in the fun. The server is irc.quakenet.org. The port is 6667 and the channel is #esports.ie
Parties involved in this: PPC (server), Rzelky and myself (Sabre0001). Thanks also to Smart Telecom for providing the servers.
All feedback will be much appreciated so that we can make it bigger and better in future. If you have ANY QUESTIONS please contact Rzelky or Sabre0001 in #esports.ie or on www.boards.ie

QuakeCups - NEW & IMPROVED written by Sabre0001, 2008-09-23 16:46 CEST (1 comments)
Last week saw a bit of a change-up to the format of the Quake Quick Cup [qqc.tourney.cc] as it split into a cup for higher level players (Quake Quick Cup) and a cup for newer or more inexperienced players (‘Not Quite Pro’ Cup [notquitepro.tourney.cc] – Congratulations again to SearrarD).
Now, things are being altered again slightly thanks to feedback received from the community. Both cups are going to take on a more scheduled look so that players can plan ahead :).
Quake Quick Cup: Capture The Flag – Team Deathmatch – Free For All/Instagib – Duel
‘Not Quite Pro’ Cup: Rest Week – Duel – Rest Week – Duel
What does this mean and why are there “rest weeks” in the NQP Cup – It’s all in the name of variety, trying to get people involved and trying to make sure that everyone is having fun. The “rest weeks” are scheduled to coincide with Quake Quick Cups where the game mode is more friendly for newer or lower skilled players. So while you may be a NQP player, you will get to play with higher skilled players and have fun because you have support!
In Capture The Flag (which will be the next Quake Quick Cup on Sunday 28th September) teams will be balanced to ensure that the overall makeup is at a similar level. So all are welcome to play regardless of skill level. Please sign-up early because teams do need to be balanced – if there are uneven numbers, unfortunately some players will be acting as substitutes. Sign-ups will close on Sunday at 08:00. This will enable us to make up and balance teams.
So to sign-up or for more information visit the Quake Quick Cup [qqc.tourney.cc] site. This site will be updated during the "rest weeks" to let you know about tournaments happening in the Quake Quick Cup schedule because they will be of interest to you. As usual, if you have any questions or comments let us know!

Not Quite Pro Cup - Launches! written by Sabre0001, 2008-09-15 18:15 CEST (1 comments)
Are you new to this game that people call Q3? Do you still equate Quakes to being terrible phenomena on instinct? Are you the whipping player of a duel? Are you perplexed by the bridge-to-rail jump on dm6?
If so, then this is the cup for you! Introducing the first “Not Quite Pro” Cup designed for those who are new / inexperienced / at a lower skill tier. The main objective of this is for people to play against players around their own skill level while improving and having fun!
This cup is run in association with the Quake Quick Cup [qqc.tourney.cc] (now in its fourth edition). This means that there is room for advancement and that players will be competing in the cup that is suitable for their skill level (and moved if they “accidentally” sign up for the wrong one :) )
